Following today’s announcement by the United Conservative Party of Alberta that Danielle Smith has been elected as party leaders, CCI President Benjamin Bergen, made the following statement on behalf of our members:

“The Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI) congratulates Danielle Smith on her successful bid to become leader of the United Conservative Party and Alberta’s Premier Designate. We are eager to work with the Premier Designate Smith and her ministers on the innovative programs and policies that members of Alberta’s high-growth technology sector have been calling for. In particular, we have been working with the UCP government on developing the province’s data and intellectual property strategy as well as the removal of red-tape regulations that hinder the ability of domestic technology to recruit global talent. We are excited to get these files across the finish line.

“Throughout the leadership campaign, we’ve heard Danielle Smith passionately fight for Albertans. We look forward to seeing that same determination directed towards bolstering Alberta’s domestic tech sector, which has grown significantly in the last few years. To sustain this momentum, engagement with industry is required. CCI Alberta looks forward to working collaboratively with the new government on strategies that will position the province for long-term economic prosperity in the digital age.”
