Today Premier Doug Ford announced new cabinet roles for his government following the general election on June 2. In response, Alanna Sokic, CCI’s Ontario Manager of Government Affairs, issued the following statement:

“In recent years, CCI has been pleased with the Ontario government’s desire to work in close collaboration with innovators to drive digital adoption in government, and to support our homegrown tech companies.

“Effective technology adoption and policy development can only happen if government leaders and private sector innovators work in co-operation. We are excited to continue work on Ontario’s Health Data Platform, operationalize Intellectual Property Ontario and develop the province’s Digital ID program. And we look forward to working with Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria on reforming government procurement through Supply Ontario.

“We were disappointed that Ontario no longer has a dedicated minister for digital government, and we hope that all ministers embrace a spirit of technological modernization in partnership with private sector innovators. In his new role as Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery, we hope Kaleed Rasheed will continue to work with our members to embrace innovation as a means to modernize public services.

“Technology companies are rapidly growing in Ontario and are eager to work with Ontario’s renewed cabinet and get to work right away. CCI looks forward to sustaining momentum and ensuring that important government initiatives are delivered in a way that drives prosperity.”
