Today the B.C. government released its long-awaited economic plan. In response, Tessa Seager, CCI’s director of government affairs in British Columbia, issued the following statement:

“The Stronger B.C. Economic Plan presents a clear vision for post-pandemic prosperity and economic recovery.

“Access to talent is the number one barrier to growth facing Canadian scale-ups. Today’s plan to modernize skills training and future-ready our workforce lays the groundwork to overcome that barrier, while also recognizing that building a sustainable labour force requires action on childcare, affordable housing, and climate resiliency. Our members look forward to working with government on more creative and innovative measures to attract, develop, and retain talent, and we will have more to say on this soon.

“CCI commends the government for its plans to grow the agri-tech and life sciences sectors, to establish supports to help companies scale-up globally, and to encourage innovation adoption across the entire economy. These measures will make British Columbia an attractive place to build and grow a business and will no doubt lead to the development of more anchor companies.

“At the end of the day, to truly prosper in the 21st century, governments need to be building the policy frameworks necessary to succeed in a data-driven economy. To complement today’s economic plan, our domestic innovators look forward to real progress on a data strategy, an IP policy, and modernized privacy legislation.”
